documentary:

Director Andrew Wonder’s documentary of guerilla historian and urban explorer Steve Duncan as he trekked through New York City’s underbelly.

Duncan brings Wonder down through the subway tunnels to an abandoned subway station, through a manhole to look at the canal that gave Canal Street its name, and all the way to the top of the Williamsburg Bridge — all of it while keeping an eye out for cops or city personnel who would arrest them for trespassing.

If you like this, try an old piece from the Utne Reader archives (September-October 1995): Terry Williams chronicles the 5,000-or-so fringe-people who live under the streets of Manhattan.
